Bone Function

Make it clearer

Bone function goes far beyond keeping the body upright. Bones form a framework that supports the body, surrounds and protects organs, and gives muscles something to pull against to create movement.

That same framework also contains storage and production spaces. It stores minerals such as calcium and houses bone marrow, the tissue that produces blood cells within the skeleton itself.

In brief

Bones support the body, protect organs, and work with muscles to produce movement.

They also store minerals such as calcium and house the bone marrow that produces blood cells.

Think of the skeleton as a moving framework that protects organs, stores minerals, houses a blood cell factory, and provides attachment points that muscles use to move bones and the body.
