Function of the uterine tube

Make it clearer

The uterine tube provides a passage for the oocyte from the ovary to the uterus. Transport through the tube does not depend on a single mechanism.

Three mechanisms work together: ciliary motion, contractions of the muscular wall, and tubal fluid. Their combined action moves the oocyte along the tube.

In brief

The uterine tube provides a passage for the oocyte from the ovary to the uterus.

Material moves through the tube by the combined action of ciliary beating, contractions of the muscular wall, and the flow of tubal fluid.

Picture three components working together within the tube: cilia, muscle, and tubal fluid.
