Nervous system

Make it clearer

The nervous system has a central hub and a network extending from it. The hub is the central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord.

All nervous tissue outside the hub makes up the peripheral nervous system. Picture cables connecting a control center to every part of the body. These nerves carry information from the body to the central hub and also allow information to travel back out from the central nervous system.

In brief

The central nervous system consists of two structures: the brain and spinal cord. Together, they form the central part of the nervous system.

The peripheral nervous system includes all nervous tissue outside the brain and spinal cord. It is the network located beyond that central part.

This peripheral network carries information in both directions: from the body to the central nervous system and from the central nervous system back to the body. In this way, it connects the center with different areas of the body.
