Peripheral Nerve Histology
Make it clearer
Peripheral nerve histology reveals a bundled organization. Picture many fine wires grouped into fascicles. Perineurium surrounds each fascicle, and the epineurium gathers them within an outer covering.
Inside the endoneurium are axons, myelin sheaths, Schwann cells, blood vessels, and interstitial collagen. The three key connective tissue layers, moving outward from the individual nerve fiber, are the endoneurium, perineurium, and epineurium.
In brief
Under the microscope, a peripheral nerve is organized into endoneurial fascicles surrounded by perineurium and gathered within the epineurium.
