Tracheal histology
Make it clearer
The tracheal wall has four layers. Its inner lining contains an epithelium that appears stratified, although all its cells rest on the same basement membrane.
This apparent layering is an illusion. The nuclei sit at different heights, but the cells share the same base. The cells that reach the surface are ciliated.
